Do Diets work?

Dieting works......... short term!!!!!

Losing weight is simple.....to get rid of body fat, you have to consume fewer calories than you burn!!

"That's it, I'm hardly going to eat ANYthing," - Have you ever been so desperate that this sentence sounds familiar?

Well, I've got news for you. That will work in the beginning, because there's a HUGE calorie deficit at first, but there is also a HUGE flaw to this approach. That is that the drop in calories is way too aggressive or extreme and the low calorie diet is not accompanied by the right type of exercise training which is what tells your body to keep the lean muscle and burn bodyfat! By reducing your food by such a massive margin means that your metabolic rate slows down in order to protect you. This "defense mechanism" is often called, "the starvation mode."

When your body goes into starvation mode, your fat burning hormones crash, and your body will start to resource its energy from somewhere else, and it does this by breaking down muscle. It will hold on to the fat stores to keep you nice and safe, without thinking about how you look in a bikini!!!!

Any program that's extremely low in calories may work in the short term, but the "honeymoon" never lasts for long. In the long run, very low calorie diets can actually make you fatter. Eventually, they lead to binge eating and weight re-gain and you end up with less muscle and a slower metabolism than when you started. Your body will store as much food as it can as fat stores to prepare for the next starvation period. This means that for you short term weight loss, you’ve actually put weight on in the long term!
